More than 180 individuals were provided with complimentary healthcare screenings on Saturday, April 28 as part of the August Wilson Block Party. The Duquesne University School of Pharmacy teamed up with Giant Eagle Pharmacy and Paramount Rx, Inc. for the event.

Student pharmacists, faculty and pharmacy residents provided blood pressure assessments, body composition analysis, glucose testing and cholesterol screenings in Pittsburgh's Hill District neighborhood, near Wilson's childhood home. Mail-back envelopes were also provided for disposing of unwanted prescription medications.

The all-day block party celebrated the life of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and featured a variety of festivities including food trucks, singers, dancers and children's activities.

The event furthers the long-standing relationship between Duquesne and Giant Eagle to educate future pharmacists and promote healthy outcomes for patients and the community. Funding support for the complimentary screenings was provided by Paramount Rx.

"I look forward to working together again in the future and coordinating care with our community in an effort to improve health outcomes to those we serve."
