School Of Pharmacy Students Take Part In August Wilson Block Party

Duquesne University School of Pharmacy students performing a health screening at the August Wilson Block Party.More than 180 individuals were provided with complimentary healthcare screenings on Saturday, April 28 as part of the August Wilson Block Party. The Duquesne University School of Pharmacy teamed up with Giant Eagle Pharmacy and Paramount Rx, Inc. for the event.

Student pharmacists, faculty and pharmacy residents provided blood pressure assessments, body composition analysis, glucose testing and cholesterol screenings in Pittsburgh's Hill District neighborhood, near Wilson's childhood home. Mail-back envelopes were also provided for disposing of unwanted prescription medications.

Duquesne University School of Pharmacy residents at the August Wilson Block Party.The all-day block party celebrated the life of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and featured a variety of festivities including food trucks, singers, dancers and children's activities.

The event furthers the long-standing relationship between Duquesne and Giant Eagle to educate future pharmacists and promote healthy outcomes for patients and the community. Funding support for the complimentary screenings was provided by Paramount Rx.

"I received positive feedback from the August Wilson Foundation and the community," said Dr. Suzanne Higginbotham, Director of Duquesne University Pharmacy and Center for Pharmacy Care. "I look forward to working together again in the future and coordinating care with our community in an effort to improve health outcomes to those we serve."
